Oskar Alegria

Oskar Alegria, a journalist by training, he writes travel articles for the El Viajero supplement in El País and he is the author of an artistic photography project called Las ciudades visibles, supported by the writer Enrique Vila-Matas and Esther Ferrer. A lecturer in documentary scriptwriting on the Audio-visual Scriptwriting Master’s course at the University of Navarre, in 2013 he was named artistic director of the Punto de Vista de Navarra International Documentary Film Festival.

Chosen by the magazine Variety as one of the 10 most promising filmmakers on the Spanish scene, his first full-length film, Emak Bakia baita, has been shown at 70 international festivals and has been awarded 15 prizes and translated into 14 languages. The Versión Española TV programme awarded him the Navaja de Buñuel prize and chose his film as breakthrough film in 2013 in Spain.

In 2015, he presented The Darkness Collection, a collection of films about darkness that he completed and coordinated together with 37 international filmmakers. He has also taken part as a juror at the following festivals: San Sebastián, Cinéma du Réel, Karlovy Vary, Visions du Réel, RIDM Montreal, New Horizons and Dokufest.
